Meet 2021 Elite Advisor Michael Goldberg

The National Tax-Deferred Savings Association is pleased to name Michael Goldberg, CRES, as one of the 2021 recipients of its prestigious NTSA Elite Advisor Award.

Goldberg is the Senior Vice President of the Southeast Region of Equitable Advisors. Serving 5,100 participants in six school districts and with $46 million in assets under management, he has been a well-respected financial advisor in the Boca Raton area for more than 17 years. He was promoted to leadership in 2006; since then, he has been involved in recruiting, hiring and training more than 70 advisors working in the employer-sponsored market.

Goldberg says that his goal as a leader “is to model the right way to work in the employer space, show them the professionalism needed to succeed, and always show them the ‘why’ in what we do.” He continues, “Over the years I believe my legacy has been developing our team of respected professional advisors and leaders as well as the impact left with all the partnerships and relationships we developed along the way. The culture of our organization has always been if you do the right things for others, you will do well yourself.”

Bernie Heffernon, Division Vice President, Equitable, says of Goldberg, “Michael Goldberg is a standout leader not only within Equitable, but within his local community as well. For the last 12+ years, Michael has dedicated his time outside of the office to be an advocate for students and teachers—partnering with the Academy of Finance and local school districts to offer mock interview classes, ‘Shark Tank’ competitions and public speaking courses. He has hired numerous interns, giving them real world experience and knowledge as a financial professional, many of whom have come back to work full time.”

“He can often be found sponsoring Career Day, Math Bowl, Family Fun Night, chaperoning school field trips or even proctoring state exams. He also sits on the board of School Advisory Committees (SAC), offering his voice to superintendents, teachers, parents and community partners. During the pandemic, Michael and his branch quickly delivered hand sanitizers, masks, meals, school supplies and other necessities to schools and teachers—making sure he was there with a helping hand during these trying times. Students, parents and teachers alike have all been touched by Michael's generosity. The leadership he has shown as an Equitable employee and as a pillar of his community does not go unnoticed.”

About the NTSA Elite Advisor Award

Established in 2014, the NTSA Elite Advisor Award recognizes the contributions of advisors who have advanced best practice standards in the nonprofit, 403(b) and/or the 457(b) retirement industry, and in so doing, have improved the ability of American workers to build a successful retirement.

The NTSA Elite Advisor Award is an annual member recognition program that has been established to honor financial advisors whose presence and innovative work have helped shape the best practices in serving clients in the ERISA nonprofit, 403(b) and 457(b) retirement industry, as well as to acknowledge their specific outstanding, unique accomplishments and/or contributions.

The Elite Advisor Award proclaims to the retirement industry, to the federal, state and local legislatures, and to the public that NTSA and its advisors are critical to this marketplace. Elite Advisors are educated, experienced, involved community professionals, required for the process of achieving individual retirement security for Americans in the non-profit public and private sector. Together with NTSA, the Elite Advisors are committed to open access, professional advice, standard of care, collaboration and ethical behavior.

The award is by advisors, for advisors. The award’s focus is on advisor best practices for advocacy, leadership, practice management and legacy within the ERISA nonprofit, 403(b) and 457(b) retirement industry, directly affecting Americans’ ability to build a successful retirement, especially through employer-based retirement plans. The award’s goal is to recognize the very “best of the best” advisor members of NTSA who have done the most to help individual plan participants accumulate assets for retirement, to advocate for this industry, to lead in profound ways, to operate an ever-improving practice and to mentor the future.
