Maryland Legislature Revives Work on Retirement Savings Program

Maryland legislative leaders have breathed new life into the effort to craft a state-sponsored retirement plan. Senate President Mike Miller (D-Clinton) and Speaker of the House Michael Busch (D-Annapolis) have named members of their respective chambers to the newly created

Commission on Maryland Retirement Security and Savings. They also have named members to the commission who do not serve in the legislature.

The commission is to consider what actions the state should take toward helping ensure retirement security for Marylanders. Among the steps the commission will consider is establishing a retirement savings program under the aegis of the state.

The new effort follows less than a year after the Governor’s Task Force to Ensure Retirement Security for All Marylanders wrapped up its work, issuing a series of findings.
