Nate’s Notes: September 2023

I fear that by the time you read this, we will be entering a government shutdown or will be moments away from one. Fingers crossed that we can all come together to keep things up and running.

Regardless of that, September has been a very busy month for the NTSA.

Educating the Educators

I am currently writing from the Kansas City airport (and no, not coming home from the Chiefs game, although I was so close to coming in early to cheer them on). I was able to spend the last two weeks recertifying some of the CRES advisors at one of our Strategic Partner groups (OFG Financial) in Houston and Topeka. We were able to have some open discussions of how the Certified Retirement Education Specialist (CRES) program helps provide the retirement education that those working in the K-12 market desperately need. I whole-heartedly back this program and would encourage anyone who reads this article to reach out to me for more information on how this certification helps teachers and educators across the nation prepare for retirement.

We are also excited to announce that everything is currently up and running for CRES Recertification for 2023. Remember to recertify for 2023 in preparation for 2024. The recertification process has been revamped and will continue to improve the certification while strengthening the process to enhance the CRES certification for all.

While in Topeka, I was also able to sit with one of our Strategic Partner Firms (Security Benefit) to discuss the future of 403(b) plans and the support that is needed across the nation to ensure that all educators have the proper education and knowledge necessary to best help them prepare for retirement.

Leadership Council

At the beginning of the month, we were able to meet with our Leadership Council as well as our Strategic Partners in our offices in Arlington, VA. The meetings went very well as we candidly discussed where we can grow and improve and how we can continue to strengthen our focus on educators’ preparation for a healthy retirement.

I am so proud to be a part of a group of individuals that care so much for the well-being of educators across the country. I understand that there may be those who may disagree with us, but if they had the chance to sit with these groups to see how much they desire the safety and security of those working in the K-12 industry, I am certain they would appreciate all these individuals do to educate others in this amazing industry.

NTSA Summit!

I would be remiss if I did not mention that our NTSA Summit is currently open for registration.

We have had more registrants in the first week of the registration being available than we had during the first month of registration for our 2023 Summit. Part of this is because this Summit will be held in sunny San Diego in February. Who would not want to be there to enjoy the sun?

But the main reason is the fact that there is so much going on, and this conference is an amazing opportunity to come together to grow the industry together. As an attendee of this conference for the past 15 years, it is fun to see how it continues to grow and change over the years. We are continuing to look for ways to improve the Summit, and I am extremely excited to roll out many new sessions and opportunities in the 2024 Summit.

Thanks!

What an amazing month! So much accomplished in such a short amount of time. October is already packed full. We are looking forward to seeing a number of you at the ERISA 403(b) Advisor Conference in the coming days.

Thanks for all you do! Keep up the amazing work!
