In the 1980s, Owen, along with his father, helped build a practice around providing teachers alternative savings to complement their state pension benefits. The premise they followed was that if you met with their firm, they promised two things: (1) a client would know more about 403(b) programs; and (2) the firm having not calling back unless the client asked them to do so. They strongly believed in what they were doing and that most of the time prospective clients would want to work with them.
