Nate’s Notes: November 2023

November was a very quiet month. It started with a family vacation and ended with a wonderful week of thanksgiving. I am personally thankful for all of you who do so much for the educators across this great nation. Thank you for putting in the time and effort to ensure that educators have the best retirement possible. I am also thankful to be surrounded by amazing people both professionally and personally. Thank you to all of you who support me personally and are there through all the times, whether good or bad.

November may have been quiet on the state front, but not so regarding federal activity—there we faced quite a bit. The Retirement Savings for Americans Act is still coursing through the legislative process, although the opposition to it is very strong and we believe we have the right things in place to secure retirement plans across the country.

The measure that would allow 403(b)s to contribute to collective investment trusts (CITs) is still moving along. We saw great progress in November, but we are still working with everyone to ensure that educators receive the proper protection they deserve when these funds are allowed in their lineup.

As you are all aware, the latest iteration of the Fiduciary Rule was released in November as well. That took all the air out of the room, and the proposed rule has received most of our attention as we digest what is in it and determine how we are to move forward. There will be a lot of discussion about this in our upcoming Legislative Webcast being held on Dec. 14. Please join us to learn more of the details about this and any other legislative topics that will be affecting our industry.

CRES continues to improve what we are doing with our advisors across the nation, and we are excited to rise the tide with all of the advisors in the industry. We are continuing to see growth, and will be adding new features before our Summit in February.

Speaking of the Summit, registrations are still at a record pace. Remember to register early to ensure accommodations in our room block. As a reminder, the CRES discount ends…today, Nov. 30. If you are CRES-certified, register today so you can receive your CRES discount and also receive your recertification at no cost. Your recertification will take place at the Summit and there will not be any extra charges.

Thank you again for all that you do! I love working with each of you and finding ways to improve our industry as we move forward. Your expertise and support are what make the 403(b) and 457(b) industry what it is today. Thank you, and have a most amazing Holiday Season!
