Q: Can you make charitable contributions from required minimum distributions (RMDs) from 403(b)s?
A: Yes. In fact, once the RMD has been made, reported on Form 1099, and taxes paid, it can be the source of charitable contributions. More importantly, you also have the right, at and after your required beginning date, to directly transfer up to $100,000 to a qualified charity. That direct transfer to the charity satisfies your RMD requirement, and it is tax-free!
