Navigating the New Frontier: A Closer Look at the 2017 403(b) Masters Summit

The 2017 403(b) Masters Summit, to be held Jan. 25-27, 2017 in Carefree, Ariz., features an agenda planned by fellow NTSA members to help make the most of the new frontier and the opportunities it offers. The agenda includes four unique, progressive modules:

With the effects of the new Department of Labor (DOL) fiduciary regulation becoming clearer, a full module of this year’s conference is devoted to how the new regulation will affect your practice and how best to prepare. It features a session on the ethical implications surrounding the new rule, as well as an “Ask the Experts” session in which you can ask a panel of experts burning questions concerning the rule.

Module 1: Fiduciary NOW! Why Not?

The new DOL fiduciary rule, despite the complexity of its application, guides the highest level of ethical behavior for all parties in retirement plan communications and activities. A team of experts leads a discussion of the high-level effects of the regulations on TPA, broker-dealer and advisor practices. Highlights include opportunities and strategies to reinvent practices and processes for the better, as well as why parts of your business are subject to fiduciary standards, while others are not.

Module 2: Deconstructing Digital…the WHY

Communications guru Sheri Fitts leads a class with labs! In today’s online world, a robust marketing effort must embrace all facets of the digital conversation. This means you need a firm understanding of the inner workings and best practices for all the elements and how the pieces fit together for success. Would you like to know more about using and navigating in the digital world? In this module, you will learn how to effectively and efficiently promote, attract and engage with your clients in the digital space.

Module 3: Going Forward Investment Strategies

Both secular and cyclical market cycles are a natural phenomenon that rhyme rather than repeat in exact detail. The challenge is that financial markets are not efficient over the short- to intermediate-time frames. Crowds are often wrong at market extremes, which makes for an interesting dialogue on the markets. Masters Summit favorite Shashi Mehrotra of the Legend Advisory Corporation will lead this module.

Module 4: Working with Decision Makers

What’s the successful process for meeting decision makers and helping districts maximize their existing retirement benefits? There are many ways to organize and work with the myriad decision makers in this industry. Hear from real, in-the-field advisors and administrators who have experience working together to provide a much-needed benefit to their employees.
