The IRS will be holding a webinar on minimum present value requirements for defined benefit plans in May.
The IRS on Sept. 8, 2016 issued TD 9783, which amends Internal Revenue Code Section 417(e) and Treas. Reg. §1.417(e)-1 and contains final regulations that modify minimum present value requirements for partial annuity distribution options under DB plans. The guidance in TD 9783 changes the regulations regarding the minimum present value requirements for DB plan distributions to permit plans to simplify the treatment of certain optional forms of benefit that are paid partly in the form of an annuity and partly in a single sum or other more accelerated form. The final rules were published in the Federal Register of Sept. 9, 2016.
