Does it Matter if a Participant Is Deceased for Purposes of RMDs?

Q. An employee who had been taking his required minimum distributions (RMDs) after he attained age 70½ dies. Do his RMDs still have to be paid? 

A. The RMDs must still be paid for each year the participant has a balance in the plan, even though he is deceased.
