The TGPC: Tax-Exempt and Governmental Plan Consultant Exam consist of 60 multiple choice questions covering 16 topic areas. Candidates will receive 2½ hours to complete the exam.

Register for the TGPC Exam
Candidates preparing for the TGPC exam should have the knowledge of materials covered in the Tax-Exempt & Governmental Plan Administration program. In addition to testing the knowledge of the materials included in the TGPC syllabus, the TGPC examination is intended to test the candidate's knowledge of the underlying principals and the candidate's ability to apply those principals when solving problems encountered in practice.

Exam Scoring
Candidates will receive a grade immediately upon completing the exam.
Candidates who pass the examination will receive a 9, 8, or 7. Candidates who fail to achieve a passing score will receive a 6, 5, or 3(N). Historically, the minimum passing score has remained near the 70% mark. Please note, this passing mark can vary and is adjusted depending on the exam difficulty as NTSA updates exam forms. Candidate exam details, official cut scores, and performance on individual exam questions are not released beyond this provided information.

Continuing Education (CE) Credits
Candidates who have successfully completed a proctored examination can earn up to 20 CE credits depending on the score received. Credits will be applied to the CE cycle in which the score is issued. For more information on examination, CE credits click here.
Grandfathering Rules
Master Certified Retirement Specialist (MCRS)
An MCRS will need to complete the credentialed membership application to apply for the TGPC credential (you will be notified when the credential is awarded).
