Caruso Joins ARA as Government Affairs Counsel

The American Retirement Association has named Joseph A. Caruso, III, JD, MSPPM as Government Affairs Counsel for the NTSA and its ARA sister organization, the National Association of Plan Advisors (NAPA), effective Feb. 12.

In his new role, Caruso will be involved with federal and state lobbying on behalf of ARA member associations, as well as drafting sample legislation, and providing comments on proposed regulations.

He joins a seasoned Government Affairs team at the ARA, whose members include professionals supporting every aspect of the nation’s private retirement system — from business owners, actuaries, consultants and administrators, to insurance professionals, financial advisors, accountants, attorneys, treasury/finance and human resource managers.

Caruso was previously an Industry Affairs Associate with the Institutional Limited Partners Association (ILPA) in Washington, D.C. where he supported ILPA’s advocacy efforts to advance best practices and policies in the private equity industry. He holds a Master of Science in Public Policy and Management from The H. John Heinz III College of Information Systems and Public Policy at Carnegie Mellon University and a Juris Doctor from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Allegheny College.
